BOGO Bowl, LLC
We believe in Dog.
What we do
We believe all dogs - whether they’re in their forever home or waiting to find one - deserve high quality nutrition. That’s why we make it easy for dog lovers to help at-risk dogs in their own communities by doing something they’re already doing – buying great food for their best friend! By working together, we keep loved dogs in their homes, and provide food to shelters and rescues giving dogs the time they need to find the perfect family. How cool is that?
Why we do it
To help animals, of course! But if you’re wondering how this came about, it’s a short story. Sara, our Chief Foodie, got together with some great women in 2009 and together they created an organization called The Pet Project Midwest whose mission is to keep pets with the people who love them (and out of shelters). They developed proactive programs to address the potential causes of separation before they become irreparable. One of those programs is a pet food pantry. Sara quickly discovered there are some programs to help shelters get the food they need for their charges, but not everyone is eligible and there’s not always enough to go around. And it is much harder for pet pantries to get food support. So she wondered if she could leverage the dollars she was spending feeding her own dogs (see below) to help the pantry. Surprise! Yes, she could. And that’s how – and why - BOGO Bowl came to be.
Where we do it
BOGO Bowl central is in lovely Des Moines, Iowa. No, we're not being sarcastic. Des Moines IS lovely! We have world class art and architecture, amazing parks and green spaces, funky neighborhoods, great shopping, incredible food, enough to do to keep any whiney teenager busy, and we’re just a short drive from “Big City” doings if we need them. And there are some great brains here: Pinterest, Dwolla, and the guys who made the “Iowa Nice” video all have Iowa in their blood.
But rest assured, although we’re new, our manufacturing partner is not. Ohio Pet Foods has been producing quality pet foods for 20 years and they’ve never had a recall!
Who we are Part I (the organizations we work with)
This is the most important part – who do we help?
Shelters & rescues use BOGO Bowl food to feed the animals in their care. They can redirect dollars previously spent on dog food to other necessities like medical care, facility improvements, more marketing of available adoptables, and many other vital tasks that help homeless dogs find just the right family to adopt.
Foster-based programs can use BOGO Bowl food, too! Providing food to the generous people who foster dogs helps more people take on this very important role (and maybe become foster failures!).
Pet pantries are the unsung heroes of the animal welfare world, working hard to keep loved pets in their homes and out of our overburdened shelters. They sometimes have the hardest time getting food donations because they are not yet fully appreciated. We believe they are the front line of helping end the tide of homeless pets in our country so we fully support their efforts!
Shelters & rescues with food agreements. Some shelters have food agreements in place that prevent them from accepting food from other manufacturers; for organizations in that situation, we suggest they create a pet pantry program with BOGO Bowl’s support to slow the stream of relinquished animals into their care. We don't care who organizations get food from. We just care that they get it.
